The Biogeography Lab in the Geography Department at Texas A&M University includes faculty and graduate students interested in ecological biogeography. We seek to understand the spatial distribution of organisms over Earth's surface and the processes that are responsible for those distributional patterns.

Landscape genetics is a new initiative in the Biogeography Lab. We are investigating ecological questions using genetics techniques. This work is funded by the College of Geosciences and NSF.
Landscape Genetics -
Dr. Lafon has conducted fire history research for the southern Appalachian mountains. This research has been funded by the Nature Conservancy, NSF, and the Joint Fire Sciences Program.
Fire History -
Both Dr. Cairns and Dr. Lafon have worked at treeline. The work has been done in Montana, Sweden and Alaska. This research has been funded by NSF and the USGS.
