Growing up in El Campo, Texas, I always knew I wanted to work in the Agriculture industry. After working for my dad for 6 years at the grain elevator he manages, I realized that farming was not the area for me. So I started weighing my options and found that I really enjoyed helping my mom in the garden and flower beds. Soon I started doing all the yardwork myself just because it was fun.
When it came time to pick a major I chose Landscape Arhitecture but soon found that did not allow the hands on work with the plants that I wanted. After my first semester of college I changed my major to Horticulture with my emphasis being in Nursery and Greenhouse management.
My sophmore year of college I had the opportunity to work at Greenleaf Nursery Co. as an unofficial intern. I worked for the company for about 6 months and then got chosen for their summer internship. The experience I gained from working for Greenleaf Nursery and the fact that I enjoyed going to work every day showed me that I had chosen the right field of study.
Currently I am working at Producer's Cooperative in Bryan, Texas. I work in their garden center and really enjoy the retail aspect of it. I am a people person and love helping customers find what they need and choose the right plants for the effect they are going for in their landscapes.
After graduation I am blessed to be able to continue working for Produces till I find a job that I can make a career.
