Project 00: Photographing a diffuse scene illuminated by directional lights First Review: Jan. 21
Submissions Due: Jan.28

Overall Goal:

To learn handling diffuse scenes and impossible objects.

Synopsis:

This project is intended for you to deal with scenes that include mostly diffuse surfaces.

Problem Description:

You will take a photograph a diffuse scene illuminated by directional light, i.e. sun.

Project Requirements:

  1. Be sure that the scene is simple, which consists of planar surfaces.
  2. In this project, we mainly add shadows therefore it is better to take pictures with seasonably long shadows.
  3. Choose a time away from sunset and sunrise since illumination is significantly different in those times.
  4. Also avoid the the time when sun is directlt above us with almost no shadow.
  5. Take all pictures in landscape orientations; i.e. it will be oriented horizontally, much wider than it's height.
  6. Since we will use them in class video, try to use high resolution, something like 1920x1080.

Since we use this photograph for the next two projects, we do not want any problem that can make the next two projects harder. Therefore, be prepared to take pictures again based on the critics in the class.

Project Submission:

Please upload your images to project website for critical review and class discussion.
