Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Academy
The Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Academy (ATMA) is one of the five national award winning, innovative,
STEM-based instructional models operated by the Alamo Academies. The Alamo Academies is a partner with industry,
Alamo Colleges, area high schools, San Antonio and other surrounding cities in providing students with tuition-free
career pathways into critical demand technical STEM occupations. Students earn college credits, nationally
recognized industry certifications and a college Level I Certificate of Completion.
Data collected from the industry workforce survey indicated a strong need for programmable logic control (PLC)
education for the skilled workforce. The Advanced Technological Education (ATE) project will work to bridge
those gaps while providing students with a combination of web-based curriculum, classroom instruction, and hands-on
experiences. Fluency in basic PLC applications in automation technology will be the primary focus. This curriculum
will help students to transition from their high school experience to continuing education, workforce development,
certificate, or associate degree programs, and then to the workforce or a 4 year college experience.
