Hydrology & ecosystem systainability

COMBINING FUNDAMENTAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES TO ENGINEER A MORE SUSTAINABLE USE OF SOIL AND WATER RESOURCES

Welcome to our website!

We address critical environmental challenges arising from the impact of climatic changes and land management practices on the hydrologic cycle and the spatiotemporal dynamics of carbon and nutrient cycles in the soil and throughout the Critical Zone.

We develop mathematical models for quantifying the sensitivity of the hydrologic and biogeochemical cycles to environmental changes in natural and agricultural ecosystems and use them to explore innovative land management strategies for both local and global sustainability.

Our multidisciplinary approach seamlessly integrates hydrology, biology, biogeochemistry as well as dynamical system theory, stochastic processes, and thermodynamics, allowing us to holistically study the interaction between human activities and the ecosystems.
