亚洲大陆腹地山川人文地貌

Mountains, rivers, landform and human culture in the heart of Asian continent

  Xinjiang is situated in the central section of Asian continent, in which stand three imposing mountain systems: the Kunlun Mountains, the Tianshan Mountains and the Altay Mountains and flow a great number of rivers across two great basins here the Tarim Basin and Junggar Basin. On this vast land, it is filled with an awe-inspiring and majestic array of natural wonders: numerous snow-capped mountains, glaciers, extensive gobi desert, grassland and forest, wind fetches, great rivers and lakes, presenting a most diversified landscapes here and there. Strange still, both the Pamir Plateau the meeting point of the highest peaks in the world and the Turpan Basin a place below the sea level come together here. And over forty ethnic groups including major nationalities, such as Uygur, Han, Kazak, Mongolian and others with their own unique customs and habits inhabit this common homeland, with a total population nearly 20 million. Along the endless ancient Silk Road, remain a wealth of old cities, grottoes and ruins, and historic relics embodying its prosperous past and rich cultures it ever boasted. Xinjiang offers visitors a mysterious and distinctive feast of fantastic natural landscapes, simple folkway as well as historic attractions.
