When I remember Dan Britz, I remember his ready smile, his sometimes naughty-sometimes laughing eyes, his command over bibliographic sources, both in Africana and beyond, his warmth, his friendship--all of which made up his Dan-ness. My study of African history while studying at Northwestern and afterwards was enhanced and made more pleasant by his experitse so willingly shared.
