JANE SEONG

Description of image

Howdy! My name is Jane Seong, and I am an undergraduate student at Texas A&M University majoring in Bioenvironmental Science. My research journey began as I explored my passion for entomology and chemical ecology, which led me to work in Dr. Motta's lab. I am focusing on understanding the interactions between honeybee gut microbiota and environmental stressors, with an emphasis on how external compounds may affect their health and biological functions.

During my undergraduate studies, I had the opportunity to gain valuable experience in two entomology labs, including Dr. Motta's and Dr. Kaufman's labs. In Dr. Kaufman's lab, I focused on microbiology techniques while researching stable flies and ticks. My experiences allowed me to refine my lab skills and develop expertise in chemical ecology and molecular biology. These opportunities solidified my interest in environmental science and its intersection with entomology.

In addition to research, I have also worked as a Children's Ecology Experience Guide, where I educated children about plants, insects, and animals in an engaging and accessible manner. This experience enhanced my communication skills and deepened my passion for environmental science outreach.

When I’m not working in the lab or field, I enjoy teaching Chemistry and English as a tutor to students ranging from young learners to adults, fostering curiosity and academic growth in others. Outside of academics, I often watch Netflix, play badminton, and travel around.
