JOEY KIM
Howdy! My name is Joey Kim, and I’m currently an undergraduate student at Texas A&M University in College Station. I’m pursuing a major in Genetics with double minors in Statistics and Bioinformatics.
I began my undergraduate study as a Biochemistry major, but quickly switched to Genetics in order to pursue my interest in data analysis in the field of genetics. I had the opportunity to work with several departments, including Ecology and Conservation Biology (ECCB) and Kinesiology (KINE), but I didn’t feel like I truly fit into either field. After taking several genetics and biology courses, I realized that working in a lab environment was where I felt most at home. This led me to connect with Dr. Motta, and I began working with his team on researching honey bee gut microbiota.
Outside the lab, I like to workout, play basketball, and otherwise just lock myself in my room playing video games. You may have guessed it from my name, but I can speak Korean as well as Japanese (half fluently). When I’m stressed I like to take walks preferably around nature.
