SARAH FERREIRA

Description of image

Howdy! My name is Sarah Ferreira. I am a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Entomology at Texas A&M University and a Postdoctoral Researcher at the State University of Northern Rio de Janeiro (UENF), Brazil, where I earned my B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees.

My research focuses on the interface between plant defense and pest control, with an emphasis on developing more sustainable strategies for insect pest management. Currently, my work is centered on the development of synthetic peptides bioinspired by plant defense proteins, targeting insect pests. I am particularly interested in understanding how these peptides and plant defense proteins influence the insect gut microbiota and how these interactions can contribute to the development of new sustainable control strategies.

For this reason, my goal at Texas A&M is to specialize in microbiome analyses and integrate these approaches into my research in plant biotechnology.

Outside the lab, I enjoy spending time with my husband and family, watching movies and TV series, listening to music, and attending church.
