INSTRUCTOR'S COMMENT: The grader and I did not think that this paper reached to the central point of the exercise. See the Fall '96 solution or pp. 110-111 of the Schaum's Outline book on Vector Analysis. Briefly, the point is that Green's theorem for the 2-dimensional vector field (M,N) is the same formula as the two-dimensional Gauss's theorem for the vector field (N,-M); rotating the vector field by 90 degrees this way is equivalent to replacing the unit tangent vector to the curve by the unit normal vector.
