M 311 Spring 2004 HOMEWORK SUMMARY REPORT Chapter number: 3 Section number: 2 Exercise number: 15 Number of papers received: 4 Reviewing committee: Beta List all participating committee members: David Mark White, Hae Woong Yang Author(s) of paper(s) chosen for publication: Xujia Zhang [and Ashley Pagnotta] Comments: The majority of submitted solutions were mathematically complete and correct. There were very few grammatical errors. The chosen solution stood out for its excellent presentation of steps and clear explanations of the operator. INSTRUCTOR'S COMMENT: The grader was much less impressed by these papers than the reviewers were. Only Ashley addressed the main point of part (a), which is whether the domains and ranges of the linear functions match up so that the composite functions are defined. All authors tried to give a verification in (a) that the operation C is linear, but all messed it up in one way or another.
