M 311 Spring 2004 HOMEWORK SUMMARY REPORT Chapter number: 3 Section number: 4 Exercise number: 7 Number of papers received: 5 Reviewing committee: alpha List all participating committee members: Tristan Brown, James Macfarlane Author(s) of paper(s) chosen for publication: Ashley Pagnotta Comments: The students basically knew how to work the problem but many of them made some small mistake along the way. Also, some of the solutions were worked as decimals rather than leaving everything in terms of symbols. This makes it a little harder to follow and doesn't have as much meaning for someone who is trying to follow the process. INSTRUCTOR'S COMMENTS: I agree with the reviewers' remarks about decimals, and so will most of your math teachers. Engineering profs may feel differently. Also, you probably noticed that this exercise was one we worked out in class. That was a slip-up on my part.
