M 311 Spring 2004 HOMEWORK SUMMARY REPORT Chapter number: 6 Section number: 4 Exercise number: 3 Number of papers received: 5 Reviewing committee: delta List all participating committee members: Zachary Olson,Raymond Waniska Author(s) of paper(s) chosen for publication: Amanda Coots Comments: Everyone seemed to have a good grasp of the concepts of gradients, cross products, and dot products. The published paper was chosen more for its appearance than its superiority, as all of the solutions were correct and most were well-explained. GRADER'S COMMENT: This problem can be done very easily using the vector identities 2(d) and 2(c) on p. 316. Physics majors should seriously study Sec. 6.4 for next year. As much preparation as you can possibly get will be well worth it.
