  Comments: One of the best homework problems we have seen done yet! Very
well explained and written.


INSTRUCTOR'S COMMENT:  As Chris points out, the solution is wordier than
necessary.  The row reduction calculation at the beginning shows that the
set spans (and is independent and therefore is a basis).  The more direct
proof of the spanning property is included just for its pedagogical value.
