Math. 311 Spring 1999 HOMEWORK SUMMARY REPORT Assignment number: 12 Problem number: 7.6.10 Number of papers received: 4 Reviewing committee (Greek letter): eta List all participating members: Michael Elmquist Jorge Ibarra Author[s] of paper[s] chosen for publication: [removed at student's request] Comments: All the papers received showed an understanding of the use of polar coordinates to complete the integration. One paper received performed the integration using the hemisphere as well as the circle in the x-y plane. As a result the end answer was 0. The problem only asked for the integration over the hemisphere. INSTRUCTOR'S COMMENT: There are (at least) two different approaches to this problem. The chosen paper uses the "geometrical" viewpoint. Some of the others, and the one from fall '98, use the "algebraic" approach.
