HOMEWORK SUMMARY REPORT
Chapter number: 7
Section number: 7
Exercise number: 1
Number of papers received: 8
Reviewing committee: delta
List all participating committee members:
Stacy Lodden, James Jarczyk
Author(s) of paper(s) chosen for publication: [Susan Koons]
Comments: Despite the fact that eight students attempted this problem, no
two had quite the same solution, although many had similar ones. The
exact form of the constants in the solution seemed to elude almost
everyone.
GRADER'S COMMENT: Susan's paper is correct except for some typos and
minor slipups. The paper originally chosen by the reviewers has some more
serious errors:
(1) Remember how the principle of superposition works: First you get
product solutions, then you add them up (as opposed to summing first and
multiplying later).
(2) The expression for the coefficients is missing both the function
\alpha(r) being expanded and the weight function r of the Bessel
functions' orthogonality.
