Math. 311 Fall 1996 HOMEWORK SUMMARY REPORT Week number: 2 Problem number: 2.3.15 Number of papers received: 1 Reviewing committee (Greek letter): delta List all participating members: Mike Pontiff Greg Ostermeier Author[s] of paper[s] chosen for publication: Jimmy Zuhn Comments: We only received one paper. The paper was quite neat and almost completely accurate. One small mathmatical flaw was found in part A of this problem. It was a simple mistake that provided a completely different answer. In the paper, the order of the matrices was correct, but when evaluated, they were in the wrong order. A complete explanation was sent to the student. Part B was done successfully. Also, some of the work was missing. The steps went right from having a matrix, and having it's inverse in the next step without showing how it was obtained. They were multiplied in the same way. No written explanation was given in the entire paper. We reccommend that this paper be sent back to the student so he can do the necessary revisions and corrections. INSTRUCTOR'S COMMENT: Although the kind of mistake described in the first paragraph of this report is a frequent one, the grader and I do not think that it was made on this paper. The error was purely arithmetical.
