This Seminar in Algebra will be on Homological Algebra.
The course will cover the basics of homological
algebra, in preparation for more advanced study
and research in fields in which homological techniques are used.
Topics will be taken from
several optional textbooks and from other sources.
This will include chain complexes, resolutions,
Ext, Tor, long exact sequences, homological dimension,
Hilbert Syzygy Theorem,
derived functors, derived categories, Künneth Theorem,
spectral sequences,
and further topics as time permits.
Research
I work in noncommutative and homological algebra.
A great introduction to noncommutative algebra by Chelsea Walton is here.
Some history and basic ideas of homological algebra are in the Wikipedia article
here.
A somewhat out of date description of my
research program, including work with students and postdocs,
is here.
