More I Would Like To Do

There are many ways I would love to give back to my community in Sugar Land, Texas, as well as my parents' communities in Colombia and Iran. My mom is from a very poor area in Colombia, and it would be very nice to go visit and give back to the many children that live in the area. This could be by handing out school supplies or even food. I have previously visited and donated clothes and toys to my less fortunate cousins. Doing so was very rewarding and I would love to continue doing deeds such as those. Some ways I would like to give back to my community in Sugar Land would be by helping out the Clements High School Band and Guard, the program that I was very heavily involved in all throughout high school. I have been given the opportunity to come and teach over the fall semester, but my schooling was in the way. Percussion is a passion of mine and helping teach it to others would be wonderful. However, while I was in high school, I was a member of the volunteer tutoring group that we started in our band to help underclassmen pass their classes so that they would be eligible to compete. Alongside this, there is a process called TMEA Region Band which is an individual competitive part of the activity where there are blind auditions between students from all schools in the district. During this process, I held volunteer private lessons with underclassmen percussionists that needed assistance and were willing to compete. For all of these reasons, I was awarded the Campus Band Scholar Award where each school in the district chose one student in the band program to be recognized for their involvement and commitment to the activity. These many experiences shaped me into the leader I am today.
